In accordance with section 4 (E) of the HEART Act, the Organisation is charged with ensuring that there exists "an adequate number of persons trained for employment in the technical and vocational fields". This training maintains a workforce equipped with the emerging skills needed to remain relevant in a rapidly changing and dynamic global marketplace.
The HEART Trust/NTA has been assisting Jamaicans with the tools needed to acquire the most cutting edge and innovative skills in sectors as diverse as Information, Communication and Technology (ICT) and Hospitality. Our graduates are responsible for creating complex computer programmes as well as making their mark in Jamaica's expanding Creative Services industry. The HEART Trust/NTA, through diversifying and strengthening the Nation's human resource capabilities, is active in promoting local and international investments in Jamaica, through fruitful partnerships with international agencies and prominent local bodies.
In the HEART Trust, National Training Agency Training Model, the trainee is expected to DEMONSTRATE that he or she is able to perform the task associated with a particular set of competency standards.
These standards are industry determined specifications of performance which describe the skills, knowledge and attitudes required by a worker in the performance of a particular role in the workplace. As such, The HEART Trust/NTA's training model offers a balance between theory and practice and trainees are expected to demonstrate that they can perform special tasks in an assessment session. Competency-Based Training is marked by its focus on the ability to transfer and apply the skills learnt in training to meet new challenges and situations.
